31 July 2019
The largest sewerage project ever undertaken in Jakarta, Indonesia is planning to release tenders in early 2020.
The Jakarta Sewerage Development Project (JSDP), an initiative of Daerah Khusus Ibukota (DKI) Jakarta Provincial Government’s Water Resources Agency, is the country’s largest centralised wastewater development.
A national priority since 2016, JSDP will implement advanced technology, including pipe jacking to install a pipeline system at a depth of 30 m.
The wastewater will be treated at a number of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) across the city, using a variety of technology with the aim of using the end product as raw water.
For the execution of JSDP, the area surrounding Jakarta’s city centre has been split into 14 zones; a procurement process for zones 1, 2 and 5 will start in early 2020.
Zone 1
Covering almost 50 km2, this section is expected to cost US$808 million to develop and includes a WWTP with a 240,000 m3 capacity. Construction is expected to take place between December 2020 and November 2025.
Finance for Zone 1 is being funded by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (20 per cent from the regional budget) and the Ministry of Public works and Public Housing (80 per cent from the state budget).
Zone 2
The smallest of the zones being opened for tender, this more than 13 km2 region includes an investment of US$103 million to develop a 17,800 m3 capacity WWTP. Construction is expected to take place between October 2020 and December 2025.
Zone 5
In addition to a 129,600 m3 capacity WWTP, this almost 34 km2 section includes the installation of approximately 443 km of pipeline. Construction, budgeted to cost US$368 million, is also expected to take place between October 2020 and December 2025.
