Summary on 2020 China International Trenchless Technology Conference & Exhibition

2020 China International Trenchless Technology Conference and Exhibition was successfully concluded at the China Hongdao International Convention and Exhibition Center in Qingdao, Shandong from September 26 to 28, 2020, with the joint efforts of the organizing committee and all exhibitors. 1,755 people from 30 provinces, cities, and autonomous regions across the country registered to participate in the exhibition. A total of 3,152 people visited the exhibition during the three-day session and 113 people registered to participate in the seminar. Professor Yan Chunwen, Vice Chairman of the China Society for Trenchless Technology (CSTT), Mr. Huang Manhu, Chairman of the Pipeline Inspection and Repair Professional Committee of China Municipal Engineering Association, Professor Li Xuejun, Vice Chairman of the Underground Pipeline Professional Committee of China Urban Planning Association, Mr. Gao Lixin, Chief Engineer, Technology and Industrialization Center, Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Mr. Pu Yijiang, Deputy Inspector of Qingdao Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau, Mr. Niu Yue, General Manager of Qingdao Water Drainage Company, and Mr. Chen Fenggang, General Manager of Jiangsu Goodeng Construction Machinery Equipment Co., Ltd., the sponsor of the conference attended the opening ceremony.

During this conference, Prof. Yan Chunwen, Vice chairman of China Society of Trenchless Technology (CSTT) gave a report named “Review on the New Advances in Trenchless Technology”, Gao Lixin, Chief Engineer of the Science and Technology and Industrialization Center of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, gave a report on the "Application Status and Market Prospects of Trenchless Technology in Municipal Pipelines", Associate Professor Cao Jingguo from Tianjin University of Science and Technology gave a report on "New Opportunities and Challenges for the Standardization of Trenchless Repair Technology for Urban Water Supply and Drainage Pipelines in China", Mr. Chen Jiawei, manager of Jiangsu Guanjian Crossing Engineering Co., Ltd., who manages the Thailand NFPT project, gave a report on “Construction Technology of Arc Butt Joint and Hole Expansion of Hard Granite”. Professor Keh-Jian Shou, the vice chairman of the International Society of Trenchless Technology, made a report “On the Mechanical Behavior of Underground Pipelines Rehabilitated by CIPP” through the internet on live. Professor Hideki Shimada, the vice chairman of Japan Society for Trenchless Technology gave a report on " Application of Conception of Underpinning for Stability of Surrounding Soil on Pipe Jacking Method". The heavyweight speakers and excellent keynote reports aroused great interest among the delegates.

This annual conference seminar set up three thematic sub-conferences: "Pipeline Rehabilitation", "Pipe Jacking Technology " and "Horizontal Directional Drilling" to discuss the latest technology and new product application of each trenchless technology. The second "ITTC 2020 Junior Talent Development Forum" held at the same time as the conference was sought after by young engineers in No-Dig related professional fields in China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and other countries. In the end, 8 academic  oral presentations were presented at the forum (overseas young engineers participated in a live broadcast connection) to compete for the honor of the 2020 "Star of the Youth". A total of 6092 people participated in the "Star of the Youth" WeChat online Voting, the average age of young engineers participating in this forum is 33.87 years old. Everyone has fully discussed and shared their. difficulties in current professional fields and constructions. In the last 20 minutes of the forum, everyone would like to meet each other in 2021 Suzhou for face-to-face communication.

The exhibition area is 16,000 square meters. The organizing committee selected 100 companies in the industry to exhibit their latest products and technologies. Among them, 32 companies participated in the exhibition for the first time, accounting for 32% of the total exhibitors. 95% of the exhibitors brought dozens of physical products to the exhibition. All the raw spaces were specially decorated, and all exhibits were sold out. The performance, quality and appearance of the domestically made equipment in this exhibition have been further improved, showing the cutting-edge development trends and innovations of trenchless technology in the construction of new pipelines and repair of old pipelines in the fields of municipal administration, petroleum, electric power, communications, gas, etc.

The China International Trenchless Technology Conference and Exhibition is presenting the vigorous vitality and development potential of China's trenchless industry and market with an unexpected scale and rich cutting-edge technology. Despite the postponement of the event and the impact of the Qingdao Govid-19 reported the day before, exhibitors and visitors still maintained a high degree of enthusiasm for participation. The feedback from exhibitors and visitors reflects the growing demand for trenchless technology in the Chinese market. As the first large-scale event held by CSTT under the normalized epidemic prevention and control situation in 2020, it will boost confidence in the development of the trenchless industry at home and abroad and inject new confidence and impetus into the steady development of the trenchless industry. Trenchless industry events around the world have been announced to be cancelled or postponed until 2021, this event attracted more attention from foreign counterparts.


ITTC2020 held the "Guanmai/Huashi Night and CSTT Annual Awards Ceremony", co-sponsored by Zhejiang Guanmai Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. and Zhejiang Huashi Pipeline Technology Co., Ltd., and awarded the honorary certificate and trophy to Mr. Yu Binquan, the first person who won the "China Trenchless Technology Lifetime Achievement Award". Awarded a certificate of honor and a trophy to Mr. Sun Shaojie, "China Trenchless Person of the Year 2019".  Awarded to DW/TXS Construction Equipment (Beijing) Co., Ltd., Huangshi Jingwu Pipe Jacking Engineering Co., Ltd., Xindi Energy Engineering Technology Co., Ltd., Beijing Longkexing Technology Group Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Huashi Pipeline Technology Co., Ltd., Central South University, and Zhejiang Juntai Ecological Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd., etc. "2019 China Trenchless Annual Excellent Technology, Product and Engineering Awards".

For the first time in this conference, a road show was performed. Three exhibitors including iMPREG (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., Wuhan Easysight Technology Co., Ltd., and Beijing Pro-Liner Pipeline Technology Co., Ltd. held the exhibition in the designated area of the outdoor corridor of Hall A4&A3 of China Hongdao Convention and Exhibition Center. The roadshow display allows the audience to intuitively feel and understand the good performance and technological characteristics of the product and receive countless praises.

On the live photo platform of the conference, 21,451 people viewed, visited and downloaded photos in the cloud album. Since the resumption of preparations for the conference in August, 692 foreign industry peers have been invited to participate in the conference. In mid-September, 876 foreign industry peers who have been paying attention to the Chinese market have received the progress of the event. The organizing committee sent point-to-point SMS invitations to 9259 professional visitors in China at the end of August, early September and one week before the event. 50 days before the start of the event, it continued to push on the CSTT WeChat official account, and 5891 people viewed and forwarded the ITTC2020 WeChat invitation link on the invitation mini program.


Before the conference, the China Society for Trenchless Technology (CSTT) held a working meeting of the council and the expert meeting in Conference Room 403, 4th Floor, Wanghailou Hotel, Hongdao Convention and Exhibition Center, Qingdao. At the meeting, the directors and experts listened to Secretary-General Hu Yuanbiao’s 2019 Work summary report and 2020 work plan report.
